Why Widescreen?

What I really like about it is the 4:3 aspect ratio screen with 1400×1050 resolution. As a coder I like a decent vertical resolution.

I’m in the market for a new laptop.

I have an old Dell Inspiron 2GHz Pentium M, and its been a great laptop. It’s five, or is it six? years old. I added some additional memory, from 512MB to 1.5GB and did a complete fresh OS install (XP Pro) a couple of years ago to spruce it up. I also had to replace the battery and my current one is on its last legs as I probably only get about 20 minutes when disconnected. I don’t do video editing or anything massively intensive with it. I have a desktop which I fall back to for stuff like that. But it’s just starting to feel a bit slow.

What I really like about it is the 4:3 aspect ratio screen with 1400×1050 resolution. As a coder I like a decent vertical resolution… even as a web-browser I like a decent vertical resolution, when I look at 768 high displays – yeuck. I’m not in the market for a desktop replacement laptop, and my Inspiron 510M never claimed to be that either. I’m looking for a 1024+ vertical resolution display, reasonably portable machine with a processor and other hardware from this decade… and my choice is very limited.
